Zara started ballroom dancesport at 8 years old, in his native Moldova. By 16, he had placed first in the WDSF World Championships youth standard division and third in the European Championships 10-dance standard and Latin divisions. He has earned many competitive honors in Moldova and internationally. Before coming to the United States in 2022, he worked as a teacher in Moldovan dance studios and performed at concerts and celebrations. His students included children, wedding couples, adult social dancers, and competitors in Latin and International Standard styles. Now 24, Zara teaches International Standard, International Latin, and social dancing at the Fred Astaire studio in Ann Arbor. Zara dances competitively with his new professional partner, Naz Ishangali, who also teaches at the Fred Astaire Ann Arbor studio.
